Pyaas Foundation to rejuvenate century-old well in Belagavi

Pyaas Foundation has undertaken the significant task of rejuvenating a historic 100 year-old well located in Vadgaon Nazar Camp, marking an important step toward preserving heritage while strengthening sustainable water resources for the community.

Originally built by the Kurundwad Government, the well stands as a testament to the remarkable engineering practices of the past. Constructed entirely with stone masonary, it once served as the primary water source for the entire village of Vadgaon. The well was known for its reliability—providing water throughout the year without ever running dry, thanks to a strong natural spring that ensured a continuous supply of fresh, potable water. Even today, village elders recall the well’s importance and share stories of how it supported generations.

Over time, however, this once-attractive and life-sustaining structure fell into disrepair. Gradual neglect led to its collapse, and eventually the well became completely filled in, leaving behind only memories of its former significance.

Recognizing both its historical value and its potential to address present-day water needs, Pyaas Foundation, Belagavi, has stepped forward to restore the well under a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) grant from AKP Ferrocast .The rejuvenation project aims not only to revive a vital water source but also to conserve an important landmark that reflects the region’s cultural and architectural heritage.

The project was initiated in the presence of the Mayor of Belagavi, Mr. Mangesh Pawar, AKP Ferrocast Managing Director, Mr. Parag Bhandare, along with Mrs. Preeti Bhandare and Mr. Deshpande. Directors of Pyaas Foundation including President Dr Madhav Prabhu , Secretary Dr Preeti Doddwad , Vice President Mr Abhimanyu Daga , Treasurer Mr Laxmikant Pasari , Jnt Secretary Mr Deepak Oulkar ,Mr Suryakant Hindalgekar , Mr Avadhoot Samant , Mr Rohan Kulkarni and a large number of local residents gathered to witness the commencement of the work, highlighting strong community support for the initiative.

Once restored, the historic well is expected to once again serve as a dependable water source while symbolizing collective efforts toward environmental responsibility and community development.
