World Environment Day 2026: Pyaas Foundation Completes the Restoration of Historic Nazar Camp Well.
Belagavi, June 5, 2026: Marking World Environment Day 2026 with a significant contribution to water conservation, Pyaas Foundation, with CSR support from AKP Ferrocast, announced the successful rejuvenation of the historic Nazar Camp Well in Belagavi.
The well, estimated to be over 200 years old and approximately 60 feet deep, has been an important source of water since the days of the Patwardhan Sarkar and continued to serve local residents through the British era. Over time, neglect, silt accumulation, and structural deterioration had rendered the well largely unusable.
Recognizing its historical and environmental importance, Pyaas Foundation undertook a comprehensive restoration project. The well was thoroughly desilted, and its walls were strengthened through concrete reinforcement to ensure long-term stability and safety. During the restoration process, the Foundation received encouraging news when the well’s natural aquifers were found to be remarkably active, indicating a strong and sustainable groundwater source.
The restored well is expected to benefit residents of Vadgaon, Nazar Camp, and surrounding areas by augmenting local water availability. In a region that frequently experiences water stress and recurring summer shortages, the revival of this historic water source represents a major step toward strengthening community water security.
Speaking on the occasion, representatives of Pyaas Foundation described the project as a fitting tribute to World Environment Day, demonstrating how the conservation of traditional water bodies can simultaneously preserve heritage and address contemporary environmental challenges.
The Foundation expressed its sincere gratitude to AKP Ferrocast for its CSR support, as well as to the district administration, local authorities, volunteers, and citizens of Belagavi for their cooperation and encouragement throughout the project.
Looking ahead, Pyaas Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to breathing new life into traditional water bodies and championing sustainable water management across Belagavi district. By bridging historical heritage with modern ecological action, the Foundation aims to build a resilient network of revived water sources, ensuring that future generations inherit a greener, self-sufficient, and water-secure environment.
